Future of 332
Contracts & Wages
I have participated in 6 negotiations with NECA across 3 different classifications. I led the negotiations for Residential and Material Handlers, securing their largest raises ever. I co-chaired the last Inside negotiation with Brother Javier Casillas, winning the largest contract raise in our history. I have the experience to deliver for the members of 332.
As we dive into this next construction boom, it is critical to have a steady hand with trusted experience and proven results to lead your negotiation teams. I will always fight to secure your future and deliver the best outcomes for us and our families.
Benefits
Quality health insurance and strong well funded pensions are a cornerstone of the IBEW. As your business manager, I will always protect the great benefits we have and continue to improve them whenever possible.
-
Kept our H&W costs flat for last two years.
-
First major benefits increase in decades: dental, hearing aid, and chiropractor benefits all increased.
-
Reduced cost of retirees health insurance by over $4k per year for married retirees.
-
Increased disability supplemental benefit from $150 to $450 per week.
With future strong contracts, we can add new benefits—some for just pennies per hour:
-
Add a Roth option to our 401k, a game changer!!
-
College scholarship fund
-
Paid Family Leave Supplemental
-
Lower required monthly hours for health & welfare
-
Ability to donate banked H&W hours to a brother or sister in need.
-
Increase disability supplemental
Staff & Officer Positions
Starting with this election, I have scaled back the number of staff reps who are running for elected officer positions.
The brothers who have filled these roles have done an excellent job of representing you.
However, I feel it will benefit the local to develop more future leaders. Just like in the field, bringing up the next generation secures our collective future.
In this election, only 1 staff member will be running for executive board (down from 3). This will allow more members to get involved at a higher level. It will greatly increase transparency between the hall and our members in the field, and it will bring new ideas to the boardroom.
AI, Tech & Bots
Our world is changing faster than ever. The onslaught of new tech, propelled exponentially by AI and combined with advanced robotics, is both exciting and scary.
While we are thrilled to build AI data centers and the adaptation of construction tech is inevitable, we must also be tenacious defenders of our scope of work and future work opportunities for our brothers and sisters.
I will always fight to keep our hands on the tools and building Silicon Valley.
Protecting Our Jurisdiction
I have assigned Brother Chris Paup, our newest team member, to a new hybrid role: business rep, organizer, and PLA enforcement. He will aggressively police PLA's with non-signatory contractors.
In just the first few months, we have won $100k in fines & assessments from two contractors. Additionally, we negotiated with Bird Electric to become an IBEW signatory contractor, bringing in $10M of electrical work and another small contractor option for IBEW members.
Small Shops & Member Start Ups
Did you know that Local 332 boasts over 90 active contractors in our jurisdiction? Over 50% of our membership works for the 5 largest contractors, but that means over 40% of our members work for medium and small contractors. Our small and medium shops are the first line of defense, competing directly with non-union contractors.
We must continue to build them up every chance we get, and also invest in the opportunities for our members to start their own shops.
We have personally helped many members over the last several years navigate the complexities of becoming their own boss: Yotta Electric, Wilson Electric, Fast Lane Electric, CFS Electric, Altamont Electric and Xcel Electric.
We will invest more resources and learning opportunities for those members with an entrepreneurial spirit.
Growing The Local
I will work to grow our local's market share, so our members have more work. It's easy to get complacent when times are good, but not on my watch.
In today's construction boom, our partner contractors need to feel confident that they can hire enough skilled wiremen to be successful.
Since taking over last year, I have been actively engaged with ETASV leadership and our NECA partners to maximize our apprenticeship growth opportunities.
Boom times are a great time to grow our membership through larger 1st-year apprenticeship classes and aggressive organizing. We aim to bring in the best of our fellow tradesmen to join Team 332, helping us fill our calls and deny our competitors the workforce they need.
